Is TMJ Pain Changing What You Eat or How You Sleep?
Maybe you've started choosing foods based on what your jaw can tolerate. You chew on one side, avoid foods you used to enjoy, or think twice about dinner with friends because you know your jaw may hurt later. Or perhaps you wake with a tight, tired jaw. Headaches interrupt your day. Your face aches. Your neck and shoulders feel tense. You find yourself rubbing your jaw or temples trying to get comfortable. You may have gradually adapted your life around the pain without realizing how much you've given up.

We Look Beyond the Jaw
Because TMJ and TMD Can Involve More Than the Place That Hurts
Your jaw doesn't function in isolation. Jaw tension, clenching, guarding, and altered movement can occur alongside muscular and myofascial tension involving the face, head, neck, and shoulders. That's why we don't simply focus on the spot that hurts.
During your consultation, we evaluate your symptoms and relevant patterns throughout the body to identify areas of tension and strain that may be contributing to your discomfort. Depending on your individual needs, treatment may incorporate acupuncture, myofascial release techniques, and other integrative therapies available within our clinic.
Our goal is straightforward: reduce pain and muscular tension, support more comfortable movement, and help you get back to eating, sleeping, working, and living with less interference from your jaw.
Already Seeing a Dentist or Tried Other TMJ Treatments?
We Want to Work Alongside Your Existing Care.
Good. We want to work alongside your existing care. Your dentist or orthodontic provider may be addressing dental, bite, joint, or structural concerns. At Anchor Point Acupuncture, we focus on areas within our scope, including pain, muscular and myofascial tension, and associated symptoms.
If you're using a mouth guard or receiving dental treatment, physical therapy, Botox, or other physician-directed care and still experiencing jaw pain, muscle fatigue, facial tension, headaches, or painful chewing, there may be more than one component contributing to your symptoms. You don't need to abandon appropriate care to work with us.
We welcome collaboration with your dentist and other healthcare providers. Your healthcare should work together.
What to Expect
Complimentary Consultation
We start by listening. We'll discuss what you're experiencing, what you've already tried, how TMJ is affecting your everyday life, and determine whether you're an appropriate candidate for our approach.
Individualized Treatment Plan
There isn't one treatment schedule for every TMJ patient. If we believe we can help, we'll explain our recommended treatment plan, anticipated course of care, and financial commitment before you decide whether you'd like to proceed.
Gentle, Integrative Care
Treatment is designed to be comfortable and relaxing. Patients frequently tell us how deeply relaxed they become during treatment, and some fall asleep on the treatment table.
When clinically appropriate, we may incorporate acupuncture, myofascial techniques, and other integrative therapies. We don't automatically turn each appropriate therapy into another à-la-carte charge.
Start Today
If treatment is appropriate and scheduling permits, you may be able to begin treatment immediately following your consultation.
